Abstract
Background: Epilepsy is a chronic disease which was uncontrolled could make higher seizure frequency. Therefore, uncontrolled seizure frequency could affect quality of lifes score. This study aims to demonstrate an association between seizure frequency with quality of lifes score on general epileptic patients in Dr. Moewardi hospital.
Methods: This study was an observational analytic cross-sectional approach conducted from July to August 2012 at Neurology Department of RSUD Dr. Moewardi. A total of 30 samples were patients with general epilepsy. Samples were taken by purposive sampling after selected based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. We recorded seizure frequncy and quality of life assesment by using QOLIE-31 questionnaire. Seizure frequncey and quality of lifes score were analyzed with one-way ANOVA models by using SPSS 17.0 for Windows.
Results: There were 30 samples consisted 13 women and 17 men. Results showed the average of quality of lifes total score in high seizure frequency (59.564.71), medium seizure frequency (78.322.20), and seizure free (83.402.34). The result of the analysis by using one-way ANOVA/Kruskal Wallis showed a statistically significant relationship (p<0.05) for total score component and the other seven components.
Conclusion: There is a negative relationship between seizure frequency and quality of lifes score on patients with general epilepsy in RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Patients with higher seizure frequency had lower quality of lifes score.
