Hubungan antara Penerimaan Diri dan Depresi pada Remaja Tunarungu

Abstract


Background: Adolescence is the periode of searching for identity and identity confusion. Adolescent who suffer from hearing impairment often experience berriers in the tasks of development. Low self-acceptance potentially led to depression in adolescent with physical disabilities, including hearing impairment. This study aims to determine the correlation between self-acceptance and depression in hearing impairment adolescent.

Methods: This study was a descriptive analytical research using cross sectional approach implemented in March 2012 in the Public Special School of Surakarta, YRTRW School for the Deaf of Surakarta, and Gerkatin Solo Secretariat. The sample was taken using purposive sampling then random sampling after being selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria of research and the sample could not be selected when the result of L-MMPI ? 10 and it did not fill in the questionnaire completely. The subject filled in (1) curriculum vitae form, (2) L-MMPI questionnaire to find out the respondents truthfulness in filling in questionnaire, (3) Bergers Self-acceptance Scale questionnaire to find out the self-acceptance score (4) Becks Depression Inventory to find out the depression score. Data obtained by 31 subjects and analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation through SPSS 17.00 for windows program.

Results: This research showed the Pearson correlation value r = -0,688, while p was p = 0,000 or p < 0,05, which means there is a significant negative correlation between self-acceptance and depression in hearing impairment adolescent with a strong correlation.

Conclusions: There is a strong negative correlation between self-acceptance and depression in hearing impairment adolescent.
