Hubungan Jenis Kelamin dengan Kejadian Demensia Vaskuler pada Pasien Pasca Stroke di RSUD Dr Moewardi Surakarta

Abstract


Background: Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease which until now is rated third causing death in the world. Stroke can cause physical disability to psychosocial disfunction, such as cognitive decline. One of cognitive decline that caused by stroke is dementia. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between gender and vascular dementia incident among post stroke patients.

Methods: This analytic study was observational with cross-sectional approach. A sample of 40 study subjects was selected by fixed-exposure sampling from outpatients with post-stroke visiting the Neurology Clinics, RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta. They were grouped into two, male and female. The data was analyszed using multiple logistic regression model on SPSS version 17 for Windows.

Results: Female patients had 1/100 times as many level of adherence to post-stroke vascular dementia than male patients (OR = 0.01; 95%CI 0.001 to 0.25; p = 0.004). This estimate has controlled for the effects of confounding variables such as age and level of education.

Conclusions: There is a statistically significant relationship between gender to vascular dementia on post-stroke patients. This conclusion is drawn after controlling for the effects of confounding factors such as age and level of education.
